Last week as I reviewed Emelie’s Geometry properties’ flashcards with her for a test I realized I have forgotten more high school level Math than I have retained. I listened to her spouting off one property after another and wondered if my parents felt the same level of ignorance when they drilled me for my own tests as a high school student.
上周为了一场考试，我帮助Emelie复习几何性质的抽认卡，我发现我已经忘记了不少中学应该掌握的数学知识。我听着她对数学性质一个接着一个的高谈阔论，我就想着，我自己的父母是否也在为当时身为高中生的我复习时体会到我现在的这种“无知感”。
The school homeschooling question I repeatedly hear is “How to handle teaching what you don’t know？”
关于家庭教育，我最常能听到的就是“如何处理自己都不知道的问题？”。
I realized that parents must first overcome their own fears enough to honestly assess their strengths and weaknesses.
我意识到首先父母们必须克服自己的内心的顾虑恐惧，有足够的勇气来诚实地权衡自己的优势和劣势。
While there are many things I am fully capable of teaching my own children, there are also things I cannot teach.
有些我能够指导我的孩子，但是有些知识却是我力所不能及的。
So, how do I handle teaching what I don’t know?
所以，如何才能应付那些我不知道不了解的知识点呢？
I do the research.我做搜索调查工作。
I utilize the strengths and education of family and friends.我会充分利用亲朋好友的长处和教育水平。
I enroll my kids and teach at our local homeschool co-operative.我会召集我们当地在家学习的孩子一起协作帮助。
My children’s education is a huge commitment I take very seriously, so while I am the first to advocate homeschooling, I am also the first to say I cannot manage it all without cheating them.
孩子的教育是我承担的巨大责任，我十分关注，所以既然我是第一个倡导在家进行教育的，那我也是第一个说我并不是所有都懂都明白，我不能欺骗孩子们。
While you must readily admit you cannot teach what you don’t know, if you are considering homeschool for your children please know there are a number of ways to manage it and no one expects you to do it all on your own. No one expects you to be an expert in every field of study. And most especially, it is okay, and actually absolutely necessary, to recognize your own weaknesses and look for assistance for your student in those areas.
你一定要意识到你不可能教授所有你不知道的知识，如果你打算在家教育你的孩子，请务必了解有很多方法可以做到，并且没有人会要求你所有都自己来，没有人会逼你成为每个知识领域的专家。最重要的是，你一定要明白了解到自己的弱点，并且为你的孩子寻求帮助。
