And Robin, I am actually going to send you an email right now probably the first from Tibet and you'll get that in a matter of seconds and there are also four-star hotels and discos and internet cafes and all the signs of China's explosive growth, but if you look closely, you can still find the soul of this land, that is the Tibetans themselves.
The search takes us passed monks on cell phones through stores where hip-hop videos, and gold-tooth caps are sold. The market where is may be changing. But turn a corner and you'll find a place that 's remained the same for centuries if the Potala is the heart of Tibet, the Jokhang temple is its soul. It is the most sacred site in Tibetan Buddhism. These people have come here from hundreds of miles away and they'll do this for hours. It's a gesture of pure humility before the Buddhists and the Lamas, those men through history who've achieved enlightenment. And technically they are not praying. They don't believe in a created god. Instead they are radiating loving kindness, chanting mantras, spinning an ancient will to spread good vibrations into the universe. The sphere is obvious even away from the temple, I wandered into a tiny court yard and I'm greeted warmly even by the man doing his laundry in their community well. And I even get a song of welcome.
At the market, I began to understand the source of their shy curiosity. When a man says something and the rest burst out laughing.

And if Tom Cruise ever needs yak butter, this is definitely the place. You see Tibet runs on yak. There were yak fur, they burn yak dung, they light their temples with yak butter candles and I discovered the many other uses at lunch.
----And that is yak tongue.
----Yak tongue? All right.
----People believes if you eat a yak tongue, you'll become very (how to say) healthy and eloquent.
----Eloquent? I can use that.
Eh, yak tongue. But no matter of eloquence can describe yak butter tea.
----Can I get a heineken?
After that, I can lend anything, even the trip to the butcher.
