Flying a plane is not an easy job -- you have to stand the acid test before you can become a pilot.
◆Acid test Acid test本是化学术语,意思是“酸性试验”。源于19世纪中叶在美国加利福尼亚出现的“淘金热”。当时矿工们无法用肉眼或常规方法把黄金矿石和普通金属区分开,于是就在矿石上滴酸性液体,看矿物是否产生气泡或溶解。若发生了反应则是普通金属,若不发生反应就很有可能是黄金,这是因为黄金性质很稳定,除了王水,不会溶解于一般的酸性液体中。 因此Acid test引申为任何一种严格的测试或严峻的考验。
