On February 8, 1915 - Birth of A Nation is released.
D.W. Griffith pioneered and advanced many of the most important phases of movie making, including close-ups, camera movements and editing logistics. He and leading lady Lillian Gish produced many short reelers in New Jersey, before moving to Hollywood, where Griffith teamed up with Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, and Mary Pickford to form United Artists. Though a later epic film, Intolerance, sought to atone for the injustice, his 3-hour epic on the Civil War, Reconstruction and the rise of the Ku Klux Klan, was seen as deeply offensive to Blacks. Griffith's Birth of a Nation premiered in Los Angeles, at the unheard of price of $2, this point in time, February 8, 1915.
