The White House has ordered a review of air safety following the botched Christmas Day attack on an international flight to Detroit. The administration says the government will look into its systems for placing suspicious travelers on watch lists and for detecting explosives before passengers board flights.
Few numbers indicate the holiday shoppers spent a little more this season, according to MasterCard Advisor's SpendingPulse, retail sales rose like 3.6% from the beginning of November through Christmas Eve, that compares with a 2.3% drop over the same period a year ago.
Iran is cracking down opposition activists following blooding weekend protests. Opposition leaders claim two prominent activists and seven arrested, at least eight people were killed in clashes with government forces in Iran's capital city over the weekend.
Dozens of pilot whales found themselves stranded on this New Zealand beach of the weekend. Vacationers and volunteers are able to save 43 whales. But about 125 died. Experts are unsure why the whales lost their way.
