Communist Manifesto
February 21, 1848 - The Communist Manifesto is published.
Karl Marx is commonly regarded as the Father of Communism. The Marx-Engels Museum in Moscow documents the life of the German born philosopher through memorabilia, including the original manuscript of The Communist Manifesto. Written by Marx and his friend Friedrich Engels, the manifesto was published in Brussels on February 21, 1848 - on the eve of a revolution in France in which Socialism played a major role.
Marx then moved to London where he, his wife Jenny (Jenny von Westphalen), their many children lived in poverty while he continued to publish. There he composed his major work, Das Kapital, which defined his theory of the capitalist system and how it would self-destruct. He died penniless and was buried at Highgate Cemetery.
