爱丁堡大学孔子学院，是为了适应世界对中国的了解的日益增长的需要，适应苏格兰政府和中国政府扩大经济文化交流的需要，由苏格兰首席部长和中国教育部长共同签署建立起来的在苏格兰地区推广汉语和中国文化的机构。2007年，在中国国家汉语国际推广办公室的领导下，爱丁堡大学和复旦大学合作成立了这所苏格兰地区唯一的孔子学院。它的成立，是中英在教育领域合作深入发展的重要标志，是苏格兰和中国为在广泛的文化领域友好合作而搭建的崭新平台。

We've been learning Chinese language and working with other peoples and schools on arrange of cultural activities. Take a look and see what's been going on.
I think it's important to learn China's language and culture because China's already an upcoming country at the moment, and also to a lot of people, learning Chinese is really original and interesting.
When you look at China with its population, 1.4 billion people, its dynamic economy, its vibrant arts' culture, its long and distinguished history, it's obvious, that young Scots need to be able to understand the culture of that country, because they will be actually be linking with citizens of China over here as well as in China itself, because of the huge expansion of the Chinese economy.
I especially think that children in Scotland should learn Chinese. Basically to have a proper understanding of the world...
I enjoy Chinese because the characters are original. They all have their own story, and they developed during the years, and speaking it doesn't sound like any other language. You learned the culture at the same time. It's an unique culture. It's just amazing.
French, German, and Spanish are great languages, but they're European languages. And Scotland should be looking at that, expand their horizons, and then learn languages in China especially.
