beefcake的本义是指“牛肉饼”，用作俚语时是说“（半裸或裸体的）英俊男子展示发达肌肉的健美照片”。与cheesecake相对应。
cheesecake的本义是“干酪饼”，过去经常有人把漂亮女人画在这种饼上增加美感和食欲。于是cheesecake就成了“（报刊杂志中的）性感美女的（半裸体和裸体）照片”。
beefcake还可以用作形容词，意思是“健美的，肌肉发达的，有男子气概的，有男人味的”
