In a bid to prevent scalping, Chinese authorities have adopted a system where passengers' names are printed on tickets for high-speed trains.
Under the new policy, in effect from Wednesday, travelers will have to show ID in order to buy tickets for train services that start with the letters C, D and G. 23 kinds of identification, including ID cards, permanent residence certificates and passports, will be accepted, but driving licenses are not. Foreign passengers need to show passports, residence permits or foreign citizen exit-entry permits.
A train ticket will bear a passenger's name and ID number, and random checks will be carried out to confirm identities.
