By Heather Sanders.
It has been two-and-a-half years since I have covered the benefits of dictation and I am pleased to say we have continued this practice as part of each homeschool week.
自从我提及听写的好处已经有两年半的时间了,并且我很高兴地说,我已经继续将这种训练方式作为每周家庭教育的一部分了。
I do not schedule dictation into Emelie or Meredith’s week any longer, but the years they spent improving upon this skill definitely embedded a strong foundation that is readily evident in their writing.
我不再把听写排在Emelie或者Meredith的一周日程表里,但是年复一年他们花费在提高听写技巧上的时间已经对他们产生了深远的影响,这从他们的写作中就可以明显看出。

Knowing how effective a practice it is, I make sure to integrate dictation exercises into Kenny’s and my cousin Olivia’s curriculum every Friday morning.
当我了解到了这个练习的有效性,我就确定将听写练习合并进了Kenny和我们侄女Olivia每周五早晨的课程中。
If you are not familiar with Dictation, I defined it in the previous post:
如果你还不熟悉“听写”是怎么一回事的话,我在以前的文章中也定义过它:
“Dictation, in its most basic form, is simply one person reading aloud a text for another person to write down. As a Language Arts exercise, a student listens to a passage and writes it down, word for word. Once the entire passage is dictated to them, the work is checked against the original text so corrections can be made. Depending on the age and aptitude of a student this can be carried out in any number of ways.”
“听写,用其最基本的形式来说,也就是一个人大声读一段文字,而另一个人写下来。作为一门语言艺术练习,一个学生听一段文字,并一字一字的记下来。一旦一整段文章被他们听写下来,他们所听写下来的内容与原文比照,然后作出修改。根据年龄以及学生的态度,听写可以一系列方式来实行。”

I am still of the opinion that, outside of reading, dictation is one of the single greatest, multi-faceted disciplines of the Language Arts. We still follow the same method as before, including the re-writing, which requires their best cursive handwriting.
我依然觉得,除了阅读,听写是对于语言艺术的单一有效、多层面的管束方式之一。我们依然像以前一样遵循着相同的方式,包含不断的重写,以要求孩子能够写出最好的字。

Because both kids are studying the American Revolution, I choose related passages from The Signers: The 56 Stories Behind the Declaration of Independence, the same book they use for copywork.
因为这两个孩子同时都在学习美国革命史,所以我从“The Signers”中选择了一段相关的文字:独立宣言背后的56个故事,这本书是正式版本的备份。
This book, unlike their historical fiction readers, does not have dialogue, making the sentence structure and punctuation more simple. Both Kenny and Olivia are in fifth grade, so the working, age-appropriate goal is to exercise their listening comprehension, stretch their short term memory, and develop their spelling and punctuation skills.
这本书,与他们的历史小说不同的是,并没有对白,这使文章的句子结构和标点变得更为简单。Kenny和Olivia都是小学五年级,所以适龄的学习目标是练习他们的听力以及综合理解能力,拓展延伸他们的短期记忆力,并且发展他们的拼写以及标点的使用技巧。
I require them to listen to the entire sentence before they begin actually transcribing, which is difficult for both of them and tests their retention and concentration.
在他们真正开始书写之前,我要求他们听整个句子,这对他们俩还是有一定难度的,可以测试他们的记忆力以及专注力。

Once we complete the dictation exercise, Kenny and Olivia look back over and edit their work before giving it to me to check against the original text.
一旦我们完成了听写练习,Kenny和Olivia在将作品给我与原作对照检查之前仔细复查了一下,并且修改了一下他们的作品。
I make corrections with them so they can see for themselves where they may have erred.
我对孩子的作品做了修改,这样就能够让他们看到自己错在哪儿了。

Though they are always given the text to read/study previous to the dictation exercise, the actual dictation process gives them an opportunity to comprehend the difference between hearing and viewing proper writing and punctuation.
虽然我每次都要求他们读一读以前做过的听写练习,听写实战过程给了他们一次机会可以综合理解“听”和“检查正确的书写方式以及标点”之间的区别。

I have heard and read a lot of different opinions through the years regarding dictation. It seems there are fewer who think it to be old-fashioned than before, but that may be a resurgence in the Classical model of education.
关于听写,这些年我已经听到了不少各方不同的意见。虽然貌似有不少人认为听写比起以前有点老套,但是听写可能会是教学经典典范中的复苏。

Dictation builds a serious foundation for a child’s future writing level. Beyond the obvious punctuation and spelling advantage, students will daily internalize the more technical aspects of writing, including forms of speech, proper tenses within correct sentence structure, and even increased vocabulary via context clues.
听写为孩子未来的写作能力建立起了坚实的基础。除了显著的标点使用能力以及拼写优势,学生每天还能收获写作方面的技巧,包括拼写形式,句子结构中的正确时态,以及通过文章线索日益增加的单词量。
Like I said earlier, outside of reading, there simply is no discipline with so many ancillary benefits.
正如我早先说的那些一样,除了阅读,再也没有像听写这样简单、且有如此之多的附加好处的管束方式了。
