On December 17, 1903 - The first airplane flies at Kitty Hawk, NC.
Wilbur and Orville Wright, the[-----1-----] from Dayton, Ohio, designed and built the first self-propelled, heavier-than-air plane to fly successfully.
Movable wing tips to control the craft and [-----2-----], developed in the Wright's bicycle repair shop, helped Orville pilot a one-minute flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 17, 1903.
[-----3-----] were silenced as the Wrights continued to make improvements. It took some time for the brothers to convince the army of the military potential of their invention, but in 1909, [-----4-----] at Fort Myer, Virginia called The Wright Flyer. The fragile craft flew for an hour and 12 minutes at a speed of more than 40 miles an hour.
