在《豪斯医生》第六季第一集中，大叔被要求做尿检，他在卫生间里找人替他，为了掩人耳目，在那里高唱He is an englishman。看过《白宫风云》（The West Wing）的同学可能有印象，在第二季中Sam，CJ等人也唱过这首歌。
这首歌出自吉尔伯特和沙利文创作的轻歌剧《皇家海军围裙号》。H.M.S. Pinafore（皇家海军围裙号），或称 The Lass That Loved a Sailor，是描写舰长的女儿和一位平凡的水手在船上相恋的故事。1878年5月28起在波士顿喜歌剧院（Opera omique）上演了571场。
这是沙利文和吉尔伯特合作的第一部热门的喜歌剧，是他们的“三大喜歌剧”之一。这首歌的名字叫For He is an Englishman.
本剧在美国上演是在1878年的波士顿，其后在1879年1月15日于纽约标准standard剧院上演，就在这一年全美国有150以上的剧团在美国各地如火如荼地演出，造成大轰动，这是沙利文作品以英国人身份而第一次征服了美国，而永垂音乐剧史。（英国人的音乐剧第二次征服美国就是韦伯的时代了）
