导演胡玫表示希望能够借助周润发的国际影响力为《孔子》打开国际市场。因《卧虎藏龙》被更多国外观众熟识的周润发最近的力作是根据日本漫画改编的《七龙珠：进化》。

Negative voices have been unceasing since actor Chow Yun-Fat was cast as Confucius in an upcoming biopic of the great ancient philosopher. That's understandable as everyone may have his or her own impression on what Confucius should look like. Producers of "Confucius", which is due out this October, released the stills at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival where they are hoping to find overseas distributors.
Director Hu Mei has said that Chow's involvement was expected to help the film explore its international market. The actor of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is most recently seen in the Hollywoodblockbuster "Dragonball Evolution".
