谣盐就是指民众受“sea salt（海盐）会被nuclear radiation（核辐射）和能预防放射性”的谣言影响，大肆抢购食盐，造成全国各地盐荒这一现象。又因为此事与盐有关，且与“言”谐音，故以“salt rumor（谣盐）”代指“rumor（谣言）”。
