Will E-books Replace Traditional Books?

For Side(正方): E-books will eventually replace printed books.
Against Side(反方): E-books will never replace printed books.

For Side(正方): E-books will eventually replace printed books.

Crysta1”:From my point of view, E-book will definitely replace printed books some time down the road.

To print one book, we need to use a lot of resources such as tree which is non-recoverable resource.

You can either use PC or PDA to read a E-book without carrying a thick printed book.
Most right reserved e-books are much cheaper than printed ones.
Even not to mention those free e-books.

Tulip_fanfan”:1. maybe not bad for ur eyes...and how about to the forest or woods...

2. one book is thinner and lighter than PC, but how about comparing PC with 100 books, 1000 books...still we just need one PC...

3. using PC is more convenient, we can control the size, the color...and go to anywhere rapidly.

沪友“heartrue”:You may be right in that respect, but don't you ever think about what will be lost if not one of us lose not one paper book?Let me tell you, it will be the whole forest! But E-book is different, you only have to pay more money for it.

Against Side(反方): E-books will never replace printed books.

沪友“elsa_ly”:Paper is one of the most famous inventions in ancient China. It is using in all walks of life.

E-book won't replace the printed books. People may feel it is very convenient to read e-book in the computer ,in the internet. But imagine the relaxation we have when we reading a printed book lying in bed leaning the wall. It's so comfortable.

Which kind of PC is thinner than a printed book?
Comparing with the PDA and PC, reading a printed book is much more comfortable, because it do little harm to your eyes.

沪友“punkydream”:dont you think reading a paper-printed book with a cup of tea or coffee at hand in leisure afternoon time is one of the greatest joy in the world?

dont tell me you love reading the so-called books by clicking mouse . it's totally crap. of course reading online is a great idea and someone would say it wont waste any more wood or what.

For your kindly information, PC can run without any power ,right? huh it's kinda ridiculous. the electricity power would result in more pollution than cutting wood do. coz trees can grow, what about the wasted water caused by making electricity?

anyway, i love the feeling that read a book by touching it. that means i can feel it, i can master it

沪友“walkeri”:1. E-book and paper book are different vectors of spreading. They have a different era and background. Althought E-book is more convenient, it still can not completely replace the paper book.

2. Yes we use 毛笔 or 鹅毛笔 long long ago. It's a fact that we rarely use them today. But 'rarely used' does not mean 'never used'. And pen or keybord would never replace the 毛笔 and 鹅毛笔's in history.

3. E-book appearance is enlarging the method of reading. but not replace the paper book. If you are having a relax, why don't you chose a paper book instead of your MP4 or PDA?

4. Paper words can be an evidence, because any edits or changes will be leaving traces. And I think that this is the most big advantage that E-book could not take at all.

BTW, I am the team leader of a debat team. And I have leaded my team to get a silver medal during my debating career.

沪友“yaoyi1028”:E-books are free, but E-book gadget are expencive. If you lose a paperback, you're only out about $8.00 instead of several hundred.

沪友“spicaning”:First of all, E-books do harm to eyes and are inconvenient for those who don't have Internet.

Second, the flavor of paper and the unique joy of reading common books can never be replaced by E-books.

What's more, this opinion has been accepted even by Bill Gates, the one who create such things, so where do my rivals' confidence come from?

To add up, please think about what will the ones who can't afford to buy a computer or get access to the Internet do if printed books are all replaced by E-books. Can our society offer them a free circumstance to adapt to the change? I don't think so. Then what will happen? Perhaps a large number of them can't read and then become illiteracy or even do harm to the community, how horrible!

If anybody is against this opinion, please show me your feasible aciton to solve this problem, thanks.
