electric/electrical
① electric：电的，用电的，带电的，指任何电动的或发电的装置，被修饰的物体本身可带电。
* electric light 电灯
please connect the two electric wires. 请将这两根电线接起来。
② electrical：电的，与电有关的，电气科学的，指与电有关的事物，被修饰的词本身不能带电。
* electrical engineer 电气工程师
All the electrical work was done by my younger brother.所有的电工活都由弟弟来干。
confidant/confident
① confidant：知己，心腹之交
He is my confidant.他是我的心腹之交。
② confident：相信的，自信的
I am confident of success.=I am confident that I shall succeed.我相信我会成功

(1) lie：说谎；躺，位于。
①——作“说谎”的意思
过去式，过去分词，现在分词分别是：lied, lied, lying
②——作“躺，位于”的意思

intense/intensive
① intense：high in degree 强烈的，剧烈的，高度的
have intense interest in sth. 对某事有浓厚兴趣
② intensive：deep and thorough 精深的，集中的
intensive training 强化训练
affect/effect
① affect (v.)：影响
Smoking affects health.抽烟影响健康。
② effect (n.)：效果，影响
Government policy will not have any effect on us.政府的政策不会对我们有任何影响。
complement/compliment
① complement：补足(物)，补全，补足语
The team needs players who complement each other.球队需要能够相互取长补短的队员。
② compliment：致候，恭维，赞辞
Please give my compliments to your parents.请代我向你的父母问好。
conserve/preserve
① conserve (v.)：保存，保藏，保护(强调节约)。
In winter, some people conserve energy by lowing the heat at night.冬天，为节约能源有些人在夜里把暖气调小。
② preserve (v.)：保护；维持；保养；防止(食物)腐败(强调使不受破坏)。
The government preserves the rights of the individual person.政府保护个人的权利不受侵犯。
sensitive/sensible
① sensitive：敏感的、感觉的、易受影响的，tive一般表特性。
a sensitive topic 敏感话题
② sensible：明智的、合乎情理的、通情达理的、意识到的、能感觉到的，able一般表能力。
a sensible young woman 明智的姑娘
sensible of his fault 意识到他的错误
accident/incident
①accident：突发性的，一般为不幸事件，即“事故”。
traffic accident 交通事故
②incident：小的变数、插曲，小事件，没accident那么严重。
an international incident 一次国际事件
stuff/staff
① stuff：东西、材料、素材
Put that stuff over there. 把材料放在那儿。
② staff：职员
the nursing staff of a hospital 医院的护士们
principal / principle
① principal (adj.)：the most important，最重要的
The principal reason for my decision was the money.我做决定时最看重的就是钱
② principle: a rule 定律、原则（通常用在科学领域）
It's the first principle of aerodynamics.这是热力学第一定律。
resist/persist
① resist：抵制，对抗
Lack of proper nourishment reduces their power to resist disease.营养不良降低了他们抵抗疾病的能力。
② persist：坚持，存留
On the tops of very high mountains snow persists throughout the year.高山顶上, 积雪终年不化。
continuous/continual
① continuous：持续不断的（可以做表语和定语）
continuous pain持续的疼痛（疼痛一直有）
② continual：不停的（中间有间隔的重复，只能做定语）
continual improvements in technology技术上的不断进步（进步是间隔性的）
raise/rise
① raise (vt.)：举起，升起，增加，饲养
He raised his voice.他提高了嗓音。
② rise (vi.)：升起，上升，起床
The sun rises in the east.太阳从东方升起。
considerable/considerate
① considerable：great much 相当多（大）的
a considerable income一笔可观的收入
② considerate：thoughtful 体谅的，体贴的，周到的

ensure/insure
① insure：保险，给...投保
After signing a contract with a professional baseball team，Jack decided to insure his pitching arm for $1 million.和职业棒球队签约后，杰克决定为他投球的手臂投保100万美元。
② ensure：确保
Please ensure (that) all lights are switched off.请确保将所有灯都关掉。
③ 当表示"保证"的意思，两者通用，英国人爱用ensure，美国人爱用insure。

economic/economical
① economic主要与“财政”有关。
The boy left school for economic reasons.这男孩因经济原因而缀学。
② economical 主要与“节约”有关。
