2013年8月下旬，全国大学英语四六级考试委员会宣布调整四六级考试题型，具体从2013年12月英语四六级考试开始实施，此次调整主要涉及听力、阅读和翻译三个大项，其中翻译的改革最为引人注目，不仅题型由句子汉译英改为段落汉译英，考试时间也延长至30分钟，分值比例也由5%大幅度提至15%。不仅如此，考委会还着重提出，翻译内容会涉及中国历史、文化。经济、社会发展等内容。
