The students will earn a master's in Chinese studies through the one-year program. The academy will recruit 65 overseas students, including those from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The remaining 35 will come from the Chinese mainland, said Liu Wei, vice-president of Peking University and president of Yenching Academy.
北京大学副校长、燕京学堂院长刘伟说，学生将通过一年的学习获得“中国学”的学位。该学院将招收65名海外学生，包括来自港澳台地区的学生。其余35名学生将来自中国大陆。
北京大学新设立的Yenching Academy（燕京学堂）将开设Chinese studies（中国学）硕士项目，面向国内外招生，并将通过long-distance interview（远程面试）的方式招收海外学生。
北京大学将向就读燕京学堂的研究生提供full scholarships（全额奖学金），大多数课程将用英语教授。所开的课程既包括“中国学”方面的compulsory courses（必修课），也包括历史、管理等optional courses（选修课）。
