Anne Hathaway: I Dreamed a Dream
When the movie Les Miserables* debuted in the U.S.A., it was on the top of Billboard’s soundtracks chart. In three days, it sold 43,000 copies, 60 percent of which are digital downloads. The most popular of the 20 songs included in the album is Anne Hathaway’s I Dreamed a Dream. Her performance was so great that it might win her the Best Supporting Actress Oscar!

Q: How do you think of your role in the movie Les Miserables?

Anne: It was such a dream and I can’t believe I’m the girl that got to play Fantine*.

Q: When is the first time you saw Les Miserables?

Anne: My first experience was seeing my mom in the show. I was seven and she was cast in the first national tour as the factory girl who gets Fantine fired. So my first time seeing the show was when she was the factory girl, and my second time seeing the show was when she played Fantine.

Q: In order to play Fantine successfully, what changes have you made for the movie?

Anne: I lost a lot of weight and had my long hair cut to play the factory worker. I would have done anything for the role.
