The column chart depicts variations in house prices on average, in five different cities from 1990 to 2002, compared to those in 1989.
The left half of the chart illustrates the changes in average house prices in New York, Madrid, Tokyo, Frankfurt and London between 1990 and 1995, compared with those in 1989. New York, Tokyo and London experienced relatively big falls, by 5%, 7.5% and 7.5% respectively. There were small increases in average house prices in Madrid and Frankfurt, of 1.5% and 2% respectively.
Changes in average house prices in the same five cities between 1996 and also compared with those in 1989, are shown in the right half of the 2002 chart. It indicates a general increase in average house prices in all the cities, except those in Tokyo, which showed a 5% decrease.
