assert, affirm, allege, maintain, testify, claim
这些动词均含有“断言，声称”之意。
：主观意味强，指自认为某事就是如此，而不管事实如何。
例如：He asserted his ideas loudly and clearly. （他大声明确地说出自己的想法。）
：侧重在作出断言时表现出的坚定与不可动摇的态度。
例如：They affirmed that the girls did quite a bit of reading.（他们断言这些女孩子读了不少书。）
：多指无真凭实据，不提供证据的断言或宣称。
例如：The newspaper alleged the mayor's corrupt practices.（那家报纸断言市长有舞弊行为。）
in：与assert近义，但前者指坚决维护某种主张或观点。
例如：She maintains that the accusation is groundless.（她坚持该指控是毫无根据的。）
y ：多指在法庭作证，庄严地宣称自己所说属实。
例如：The fingerprint expert was asked to testify at the trial.（指纹专家应邀出庭作证。）
：可与assert换用，但语气弱一些，侧重指行为自己的权利提出要求他人承认。
例如：A small terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the bombing in London.（一小撮恐怖分子已经声称伦敦的爆炸事件是他们干的。）
