On June 11th, 1967 - The Six-Day War ended.
In June 1967, Israel felt menaced by a buildup of surrounding Arab forces and replied decisively by assaulting Egypt on the Sinai Peninsula, Syria on the Golan Heights, and Jordan on the West Bank. Virtually all Arab tanks and planes in those territories were destroyed in lightening-like attacks that left Israel victorious beyond all expectations. When the Six-Day war ended on June 11th, 1967, Israel had sudden control of territories 4 times its original size. But the true fruits of victory came in claiming the old city of Jerusalem from Jordan. Many wept while bent in prayer at the Wailing Wall. Said Moshe Dayan, "We have returned to the holiest of our holy places - never to depart again."
